My Journey to Surrogacy- Pt 1

Hi everyone,

Happy New year! It's been a while since I have written a blog post so what better way than to start this year with this as my first one. In just a few short months this will be my dream coming to life!

This is a part one of many more to come but I wanted to share how we got to the point we are at in our surrogacy journey. Let me start at the very beginning. This is something that has been on my mind forever. When I was little, I always dreamed of being a Mom and dreamed of being pregnant and having babies. Once I had one (very easily, quick, and naturally) of my own and was back on my feet and up and running hours later the thought of being a surrogate really became something I could see myself doing.

It was always in the back of my mind but without experiencing it for myself I didn't know what it would all entail/what to expect. I always said that I wanted to have my own kiddos first and then would consider or move forward with the surrogacy path and also I wanted to ensure my first pregnancy and labor and delivery was not a fluke with how easy it was. Fast forward to my own pregnancy number 2 and dare I say the pregnancy was even easier than my first. Labor and delivery was not quite as easy due to an induction with more intense contractions (thanks Pitocin!) however I was also back up and running very shortly afterwards then too!.

While I know my stories are not the normal for most women it is my reality and I feel very blessed and lucky to be able to say these things. Knowing that and knowing that it had been on my heart to be a surrogate I started openly sharing this and talking with people about it. One of my dear friends had another friend who was considering the idea of using a surrogate to expand her family. My friend and I jokingly talked about how funny and neat it would be if I were to be a surrogate for them. Not really thinking anything of it or thinking it would ever come to fruition I explored some options and talked to some other people who I knew had been a surrogate already to get more ideas and a feel of what was to come and what the journey would all entail.

Fast forward to summer 2021 this friend of a friend reached out and asked how serious I was about the process and if I would be open to exploring the journey with them. This is definitely not how I expected this journey to begin for me but that marked the start. I was a bit nervous about the whole matching process with possible intended parents honestly and in many ways this was a blessing in disguise. The intended mother on our journey had already started the process on her end and was working with a surrogacy agency and fertility clinic and so naturally I filled out my paperwork and submitted it. And so the journey began.

Keith although quiet about the whole process has been so overly supportive of me doing this knowing it is something I have been talking about forever. He gave me his blessing knowing it something that will not only fulfill a dream for me but help another family and I know he will be at my side every step of the way.

Part 2, 3,4... etc coming soon! But for now, I'll leave you with the last fact that we are on track for a Spring 2022 embryo transfer.

This isn't my usual content but its a lifestyle blog after all! I hope you enjoy following along with me on this one or at least find it interesting.

Looking forward to sharing more soon! 💕
